Cheers to those beer lovers out there.
Happy National Beer Day 2021!
Who knew? I certainly did not know this. But thanks to my husband for discovering this National Day, it pushed me to finally share a couple of my beer can cards that I made a couple years ago.
If you have a beer lover in your presence you will hopefully appreciate these. If you don’t, then you can get inspired to create with loads of other fun aluminum cans out there.
I always struggle to make cards for Father’s Day or Birthday’s for the men in our family, and this idea has really helped in creating fun cards for them.
The Michelob Ultra card was made for a friend’s 50th birthday and the Hamm’s went to my hubby. He said: “I think that’s the best card you ever made”. HaHaHaHAhaHa!!!!!! “ok Thanks Hunny”
I had so much fun creating these after being inspired by my stampin’ friend Anne Hayward. She’s a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator in Colorado and had made some super fun cards with Micro brew labels from Colorado. Needless to say, I sure don’t look at any beer can the same way anymore.
The first thing I needed was a tin snips to cut open the can. This is an essential tool to have! It cuts right through the top and edges like butter. WARNING! The edges are extremely sharp! After my first cut (ouch) I wore leather gloves while cutting.
You can use any of your dies to cut shapes. I thought I would need to use the thick, old, Big dies that we used to carry, but, surprisingly, the thin dies cut right through the aluminum can! I just needed to tape the aluminum down to the cutting plate to prevent it from curling and then I taped the die down on top of it to keep it in place.
One of the biggest challenges to using the cans is getting them to lay flat on your card. The brads used on this Hamm’s card worked the best, but you still need a strong adhesive to keep the cardstock down because I found that it still curled a bit after I attached the top layer. Our liquid glue works great for all the layers. I used dimensionals to pop up the blue layer on this card, but the adhesive on the dimensionals wasn’t quite strong enough to keep the aluminum flat, so I used liquid glue on the dimensionals. The best way to use the liquid glue is to wait until the glue dries a bit and gets tacky before you put it down.
Hope you have fun making some of your own beer can cards.

Great cards!
I didn’t think to use the small dies on these. I used to use cans a lot when we had the big dies. Maybe I will try them again.
